Advent
Reflections
The IHM Sisters invite you to pray
with us throughout Advent and Christmas. The pages that follow reflect
the prayer of IHM Sisters and their friends. Their words and images
give expression to the diverse and creative ways in which the living
word of God inspires each of us in our daily lives. Let us together
wait expectantly with hope for God’s coming into our hearts
and into our lives.

Lent
and Easter 2009 Reflection Book
As signs of spring emerge in wind and warmth, bud and bird, the
rich tradition of our faith offers us the
gift of the Lenten-Easter season. Ancient stories and images that
have nourished the faith of generations
of believers are again presented to us through the familiar words
of the readings of the daily Eucharistic liturgy. |

African
Sisters' Mass
The ordinary Sunday morning liturgy at the IHM Center Chapel took
on an extra ordinary sight, sound, and spirit on November 9 as
the congregation celebrated the “Dedication of the Lateran
Basilica” in Rome. That day of universal recognition of
the Mother Church of all Christendom was chosen to rejoice in
the diversity of culture and language present in our local church
here at the IHM Center. The liturgy was enhanced by Sisters’
from three countries in Africa: Kenya, Tanzania and Nigeria who
reside at the IHM Center and Cathedral Convent in Scranton and
are either students at Marywood University or working in healthcare
at Our Lady of Peace Residence.

The
Story of the Native Irish Sisters
Who
Entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate
Heart of Mary, Scranton, Pennsylvania
by Sister Michel Keenan, IHM
This is the history of the
Sisters from Ireland who came to the United States to become
women religious in the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of
the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, Pennsylvania. The story
begins for the IHMs in 1872, one year after the creation of the
Catholic Diocese of Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1871. Actually,
however, it has a context that parallels the history of Ireland
itself and dates back to 1695 when the English conquered all of
Ireland and inflicted the Penal Laws on the Irish people. |
