Walking in the Shoes of Another
As signs of spring emerge in wind and warmth, bud and bird, the rich tradition
of our faith offers us the gift of the Lenten-Easter season. Ancient stories and
images that have nourished the faith of generations of believers are again presented to us through the familiar words of the readings of the daily Eucharistic liturgy.
The following words and drawings reflect the prayer of nearly one hundred IHM Sisters, Associates and friends. They pondered these readings and allowed their deep reflections to give abundant life to their messages. May these reflections nourish our own daily prayer and invite us to see how we are bound to God and to one another in the paschal mystery of Jesus.
May our journey through Lent, the Triduum, and the Easter season find us in a different place from where we began. May we be more faithful to God’s loving covenant with us, more responsive to the Gospel, and more loving to one another. |

Making
Space for God
Advent and Christmas are seasons of amazing promise: peace, light,
truth and
justice. This season we are too aware of the darkness all about:
so much violence,
injustice and suffering. Our own hearts yearn for peace, for freedom,
for consolation,
and for justice. We hold on to the promise - Emmanuel, God with
us.
The liturgical readings of the Advent and Christmas seasons are
rich with the
promises of God. They touch our longings and lead us to encounter
God’s coming into
our lives - in our struggles and joys, hopes and needs, choices
and decisions.
We invite you to make space for God by praying with us throughout
Advent and
Christmas. The pages that follow reflect the prayer of IHM Sisters
and their friends. Their
words and images give expression to the diverse and creative ways
in which the living
word of God inspires each of us in the reality of our daily lives.
Let us together wait
expectantly with hope and ready ourselves for God’s coming
into our lives. |

A
Psalm in Celebration of Twenty-Five Years for Heritage University
(1981-2006)
| Inspired
by a reading from the prophet Habukkuk 2:2-3.
"Write down the vision
Clearly upon the tablets;
So that one can read it readily.
For the vision still has its time,
Presses on to fulfillment,
And will not disappoint;
If it delays, wait for it,
It will surely come, it will not be late."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
O Come, Creator Spirit!
Imprint the founding vision of Heritage College
On the tablets of our hearts!
Breathe a quarter-century blessing
______ On these lands
Where sacred soil of ancient tribes
Yielded deep rich loam
To cushion steel and stone
______ To build a home, in
praise of learning.
In praise of learning!
For new millennia wisdom-seekers
______ And dream-catchers.
O Spirit-Wisdom, guide our daring dreams!
______O Come, Creator Spirit!
"The vision still has its time,
______ and presses to fulfillment,"
the prophet says.
Breathe a quarter-century blessing
______ On these lands --
This sacred soil of ancient tribes,
Somehow aware, as good earth is,
______ Of destiny
______ Of progress
______ Of new grass roots
___ Of unfamiliar language
in its ears;
___ Of unfamiliar footprints
on its face.
O Spirit-Wisdom, guide our hopefilled plans!
______O Come, Creator Spirit!
"The vision will not disappoint," the prophet
says,
______ "wait for it;
it will surely come.''
Breathe a quarter-century blessing
______ On these lands—
This sacred soil of ancient tribes.
Bless our humble yearning;
Bless this home of learning
Embracing every race,
Hearing our plea, and that of earth:
"Our future, too, depends on you;
The vision lives in what you do!"
O Spirit-Wisdom, guide its certain birth!
