Sister
Catherine Sitja y Balbastro recently professed
temporary vows as a Sister, Servant of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary at a Eucharistic liturgy
held at the IHM Center in Scranton.
Sister
Catherine entered the IHM Congregation’s
initial formation program in 1999. Since that time,
she has studied the constitutions and customs of
the congregation while also engaging in a variety
of ministries. Sister Catherine has ministered in
Scranton with the Latino community, served as a
translator at Marian Community Hospital in
Carbondale where she also updated the hospital’s
website, assisted in the re-design and translation
into Spanish of the IHM Congregation’s
website, volunteered at EOTC in Scranton as an
assistant teacher of computer skills for the
inmates at Lackawanna Prison, and currently serves
as a pastoral associate at Our Lady of Mercy Parish
in Forest Hills, NY.
Raised in the Provincia de Corrientes and Buenos
Aires, Argentina, Sister Catherine traveled to
England for study of political science. She earned
a bachelor of arts degree in political science from
Richmond University in London.
The vow ceremony provided the IHM Sisters the
opportunity to promise their support and prayer and
ask God’s grace for Sister Catherine as she
begins her life-long commitment as an IHM Sister.
